January Meeting: Trauma Releasing

One does not have to be a combat veteran or firefighter to be exposed to frequent traumatic events. Most of us have shuddered or turned away from news shows in horror as images of terrorist attacks, earthquakes, hurricanes, or war footage flash across our TV screens. Those pictures sear themselves into our brains, and create tensions or energy blocks in our bodies that can result in multiple physical problems and emotional imbalance.

It is well known that trauma damages the bodymind and can cause long-term problems for the sufferer. Fortunately, the body has natural healing processes that can be stimulated by doing Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE),a new paradigm in trauma treatment that is actually as old as the mammalian body itself.

David Berceli, who has a doctorate in clinical social work, developed this technique while working in “hot spots” around the globe where large populations have been traumatized by genocidal attacks, civil wars, famine and natural disasters. The simple Trauma Releasing Exercises elicit mild psychogenic tremors that can have a powerful releasing effect on the blocked energy in the body.

Longtime SacIONS member Dr. Martha Dickson, a Sacramento chiropractor, has studied TRE with Dr. Berceli and wants to share the techniques at our January 2009 event.  She will be assisted by Ruth Kenney, licensed marriage and family therapist.

Come and learn how to “shake off” the effects of trauma as nature intended!  Please bring a yoga mat or other exercise mat if you have one. Women will be more comfortable in loose pants than in skirts or dresses.
